Hi!

Now it's official - 5 years after finishing my last studies and after having 2 kids I'll be a student again. :-) I'm sooo excited! I'm enrolled at Gold Coast TAFE for the Diploma of Nursing online full-time. Anyone else here from the Gold Coast? I also got confirmation that I will be doing all my placements through John Flynn. That's even more exciting as they also have a graduate program for student that do well in their studies! I'm so happy and looking forward to switching my brain on again. :-) Maybe there are more here who will also be at John Flynn? Would love to hear from you guys as it will be a while until we'll meet. :-)

Have a good weekend!

Congrats that is awesome news :-) I am also doing my Diploma of Nursing at GCIT and doing my placement soley in the John Flynn program - so it seems we will meet and be doing placement. I am in a similar situation to you - I have 2 young children aged almost 2, and almost 4. Ive been studying Law..but I hate it...no passion there for it what so ever!!

John Flynn is an amazing hospital too, cannot wait to start placement.

Look forward to meeting you at the first residential school, and also at John Flynn in our placement through 2012/2013!

Hi Lissam,

That's great - so I already know one person at John Flynn! :-) I did my bachelor of business at Griffith but in the end I didn't like it too much either. Will be great to get to meet you! We live 5min from JF and both my kids were born there. Great hospital. So Iguess I will see you at the morning tea session before our first placement starts! How exciting! :-) Good luck with your studies and I see you there!

My kids are almost 2 :-) (Dec 2009) and 5.5 years old. So we are in a very similar situation. Are your kids at daycare? My son is at prep which is a life saver, and my daughter will go an additional day (makes it 3 days/week) once I start studying.

See you soon.

oh wow we really are in similar situations! My daughter was born there in Jan 2010! So I must have been there only weeks after you (She was born jan 6) and my son was born in nov 07 there also - Dutt was my doctor. Such a great place! Both of my kids are at daycare yes, I have been stuffing around this year studying law at uni, but would much rather be doing this! Ive been slowly buying my books off ebay (2nd hand, after doing law and commerce at uni I cannot bring myself to buy them new anymore!) Look forward to meeting you at the morning tea next year and residential school :-)

I didn't know that you could purchase your books separately. I bought mine as part of the enrolment pack. Bugger ... :-)

Good luck with the start of your studies. I just received my info pack by mail today. Next week will be orientation week and the week after we'll start to get into the serious stuff. :-)

Cheers

I too only bought some of the books. I had a friend complete the course a couple of years ago and the books that are still current, she lent me. A huge saving! Big help as the book pack is quite a large amount. My other books all arrived last week. I don't know whether having a quick look now will scare me off and whether I should wait to read them in conjunction with the course material.

I too received my pack from TAFE today. Not long to go now! Good Luck everyone!

Hi everyone! It is a bit daunting isn't it? Did you do the numeracy and literacy test this week as well? I felt a bit more confident after doing that as I realized I could still do it after all the years since I left school. I am fulltime as well in group I/1.

Can't wait to get started on Monday and see what we are in for!

Hi guys, I'm also doing the course but p/time, I'm in group I and I also had the meet and greet chat on Friday. So far I've only done the literacy test, I'm stronger in literacy than maths so hope to conquer that one on Monday. I'm also in Sydney. Good luck for next week.

Hi Madein71,

I'm in the same group as you I think - Group I/2 Full-Time. Did the two tests - loved numeracy and did ok in literacy. It's good to know that 5 years of kids and home duties haven't 'damaged' my brain too much. :-))

Downloaded the study guide and introduced myself in the A & P unit forum. So all that's left for now is reading the first 2 chapters. All the medical terms are a bit overwhelming but I love it!

Good luck with your studies!
Cheers
