Have just started enrolled nursing and realising that whether I am classified as a good nurse or not seems to depend on how much I can remember. Whether I can remember what is happening to all the patients, who needs what next and when - enough to give a great handover report at the end of the day. I feel that I am very good with patients, counselling, caring - but it's not what is being asked for, nor what will take me further in my career. It all depends on how much I can hold in my brain at one time and how quickly I can put up a drip and dress a wound. Are there any areas of nursing that have a set formula where my (deteriorating) memory won't be the end of my career?
