Hello everyone! I am from overseas coming over to Australia as a surgical RN. I would just like to know how it is being in a surgical unit, since I don't have a solid background in the area. What qualities and practices do I need to adopt in order to work effectively. Any input will be gladly appreciated. Thanks!

Surgical Nursing in Oz is great. You will find 'cutting edge' surgeries being performed and research trials too. North American nurses will find a couple of things different: Scrub Nurse runs the room, not the scout; 3 nurses to a room, one is the anaesthetic nurse.
Private Surgery centers are alive and thriving in Oz, and I am working at a great one 2 hours north of Sydney. If you are looking for a great place to work in the Newcastle area, let me know.
