Hi guys!

I am wanting to study to become an EEN but currently I have a mortgage and need to work substantial hours to be able to support myself and the mortgage.
I have done alot of research and have found that Gold Coast Tafe offers the Diploma of Nursing online and its part time. This is great however - i have a few questions...
Is there anyone who is in the same situation as me and is currently studying their Diploma though Gold Coast Tafe? If so, how do you manage?
Is there any way that this course can be self paced? or does it have to be completed in the Part Time time frame given?

Any help is appreciated - looking forward to starting my new career! :)

I work full-time (48 hours per week), have a mortgage and study part-time with Gold Coast Institute of TAFE. It's manageable, but you can expect to be very busy at nights or on weekends studying.

You should be spending about 15 hours a week on your studies. It's hard work, but interesting.

The course needs to be completed within the appropriate time-frames as given by your teachers. Part-time is manageable if you're dedicated.

Hope this helps! :)

Thanks for that chaoite

I have a few more questions sorry :-( im just a little confused lol

I called GCIT and they said that there would be 5 weeks of practical plus the 400hrs (something like that) of vocational placement ? How do you fit that in ?? Im guessing you would have to stop work to do that? or save up 5 weeks worth of wages to be able to still pay the mortgage and weekly bills etc. I guess thats the only thing im worried about is finding time to do the 400 odd hours etc.

yes you do have to do your practical placements which all up are 13 weeks in total 2-3 weeks 1st stage, 2-4 weeks in 2nd stage and 6-8 weeks in 3rd stage these weeks are dependent on where ur studying your diploma, so yes you have to either save up or max the credit card or do weekend work or work around your prac shifts but this is not advisable because its exhausting!!!

some places might allow you to do 2-3 days per week until all hours are done you just have to ask

Good luck with ur studies,
