Hi everyone,

Just after some info on where you can do the RN course externally in Brisbane, or close by. What is involved in doing it externally? Is there much on site stuff?

Thanks for any info :o)

Bec,

There are a number of universities that offer external RN courses. I'm currently doing RN externally though CQU. Some courses require you to attend residential school. CQU res schools closest to Brisbane would be Noosa. Let me know if I can answer any other questions. I'm really enjoying the course with CQU. I've seen similar feeback with other universities.

Dave.

Thanks so much for your response Dave.

Can I ask how much Residential school is required? How much placements do they do? What year are you? Sorry so many questions, just trying to work out which way to go. Are you full time? I know they say to allow 10 hours per week per paper, would you say that is a lot? Thank you so much for your help :o)

bec100, Charles Darwin University offers open university courses in nursing. The only hurdles that you will have are as follows -

1) Discipline to study as you will lack the motivating impetus of a group.
2) Can be problematic unless you sign up to chat with others in your course..Helps especially in assignments
3) You will need to find time and coordinate with your University to do your clinical placements. With Charles Darwin University, you might want to enquire how they organize placements. No good if they cannot get you into say Prince Charles Hospital because their sphere of influence is not BRisbane. Justa foot note - Prince Charles and Royal Brisbane is QUT's playground for its nurses (playground as placement choice because they have very good relationship)
4) Need to learn to re-organize your study format...like me, I used to study at 3 am because all my kids was asleep. I found that this allowed me time to play with them after tea. I also run a business and do research for QUT, so I really am up to my eyeballs. I also tend to miss a lot of lectures and study online. That's just me I guess.

Anyways all the best..
