Hey guys,

I also got into the 2 year fast track nursing program at Darlinghurst, as well as UTS. After careful consideration, I have decided to take the 2 year course, as this will allow me to start practising as a nurse asap... Any suggestions on how to keep afloat while still working a part time job???
Thanks!!

sylke fyn / Ziz,
hello! you have finished first week by now at Darlinghurst! how you liking it? :) well to ask your question....cant really think of much but at the moment - what i can think of is:
- plan ahead and organize your stuff...it may seem so basic, but organizing yourself will be your best mate - especially when you are planning to work part time.
- Make a schedule ahead....and stick (!) to your study schedule...
- Try to start on assessments...read on them so you have lots of things to write about.
- stick to the requirements of the assessment...you can see that in the unit outline. especially if there are questions to be answered in the essay.
- read the readings really before hand especially readings for tutorials. so you can ask questions about it....this is especially true with your NUN subject... you have that right?
First semesters are generally easier than the second semester.
If you need second hand books, there is a board near the kitchen - they usually post books for sale on that board - but you know that by now i suppose.
hmmm what else? there would be a mentor that was introduced to you guys during orientation week, keep their number or when you see them in campus - just ask them. They can help.
make sure you have a good support system during this 2 years because it can be really stressful.
anyways, enjoy! :)

The whole idea of fast tracking sounds a bit frightening to me. Yesterday was my first official day of 6 years of part-time distance education to get my degree through JCU. i had to go this way, financially i struggled at my last attempt of university to become a nurse, full time on campus. But I am not being lazy!!! i have a part-time job at a high care aged care facility, who just so happen to be putting me through my Aged care certificate III. Its finally hit me that I'm gonna have to work hard to juggle work and two lots of study. I'm feeling quite overwhelmed at this minute. Supposed to be studying but having trouble with the uni website.

good luck and i'm proud of all of you doing the fast track, you're all braver than me and most likely more organised.

Take care

Hi ladies,
I just got an offer and accepted it today form CDU. I ma soooo excited. I will be studying externally and hoping to fast track by doing an extra semester this year and next during the summer. I am a stay at home mum with one 2 week old baby, hubby is very supportive so hopefully it will go well. I am a bit nervous about planning study time and the baby and other home commitments but it sounds better than working (?). I hope to finish my degree in 2 years ie March 2012.

Good luck to you all
