Could you please tell me who works as PCA / AIN in Nursing Homes what do you use when you clean your residents with when there are incontinence of urine or faeces or just after you had toileted them.

Do you use Multi Purpose Towels (disposable)??? Jenny Wipes (Moist Towelettes) or ??? I know first of all you need to use toilet paper and then any suggestions?I do lots of stock ordering just about every week and the Jenny Wipes cost hundreds of dollars. I am trying to find ways to cut the cost down. Anyone here has any suggestions? what to use? and if anyone knows where I could find Medical Health Products Companys that are low in cost and value for money. Please if you have any suggestion. I would love to hear from anyone.

Hi Molly

In my nursing home we use toilet paper for routine cleaning after toileting, but for incontinent episodes we use ordinary face washers with warm water and Hamilton's oil. Our towels and linen are supplied and laundered by a linen company, it works well, except we do get a bit short close to delivery day.

We also have the wipes that you mention too, but generally find them not as good. When I first started at the nursing home we were encouraged to use them over the face washers, the rationale being that, at that time, it cost 7 cents per wipe and 22 cents per washer to be laundered. What management did not realise was that to do the equivalent job of one washer it took at least 4 wipes. Another problem was that people used to try and flush them down the toilet leading to a few plumbing problems! We find the wipes really good for cleaning hands and face after meals though.
