Hi Darren,

I am currently managing an aged care facility and I have just put in broadband. I was thinking this site could be used as a forum to introduce and inform PCA's about nursing as a profession. What does everyone else think? This may even help increase the nursing workforce by encouraging them to further their careers. I just wonder if they had their own forum would they be more inclined to use.

HI there, I work for Holy Spirit home in Brisbane and we have been invited to present at the Aged Care Best Practice here in Brisbane . We have developed Sharepoint in our facility- it acts as both intranet and internet where staff are encouraged to reseach as they wish, we actively support ongoing education and have entered training partnerships with other providers. We are at present supporiting X3 AIN staff to do EEN and offering X2 staff the opporunity to complete Cert 3. After all the ultimate goal is quality care and anything we can do to enhance this is important

As an AIN student I would love to see our own forum. People new to the industry need all the information they can get!

I would like to take the opportunity and say get used to being classified as a PCA or PCW. . AIN what is that really someone who has worked in the hospital system or who have completed Cert 4... Or now the added on module medicine, life style activities.. That is why I don't get these fast track courses.. How can they possibly gather all the knowledge in five weeks... We were poo pooed when as students doing our work placement.. I did a 12 week cert 3 which I completed in Dec 09..

Be prepared for hard work at a very poor rate of pay.. Work that will be expected, that is why you can be classified in some age facilities as PCW's you can be called upon to do cleaning kitchen work. Also look into the LHMU website..
