Does anyone know what the difference is in the pay if you are doing the same job? I am currently working in the home and community care area as a casual. I have the cert 3 and plan on starting the cert 4 shortly, just so I can earn enough to cover expenses once I start studying nursing. Any idea what the pay goes up by?

As I hear in QLD  that cert 3 will be phased out and cert 4 will be mandatory. Pay rate in my work place is on your experience.  I am on $ 20.42 cents an hour I am pay point 2 even though I am in my third year. My first year I was casual.  I do know in NSW the rate of pay has always been higher for a PCW.

The Cert 3 is still mandatory in Queensland but many (myself included) are or are planning to study the Cert 4 as well and as far as I know there is very little if any pay increase but that would also depend on what nursing group you work for.

Independent nursing homes tend to pay more per hour in my experience while larger groups pay the lowest rate for 1st year nurses and then after a certain amount of time the pay goes up.

As mentioned in previous that cert 3 will be phased out . Still is something that will be somewhere down the track. Combination of cert 3 and 4. I am in QLD. A few of my friends that I made through doing my cert 3 are now completing cert 4.  The theory is that and some will say cost cutting. Eliminate the EN .. have an RN on call or there for a period of time on the shift. There is a lot of EN grads looking for work. I know of one girl that has been seeking work since the beginning of this year. Now considering being a parrmedic. The word is do your RNs..

All vey good points.  About RN's: did you see on ACA that there are qualified RN"s all over Australia who cannot find work, and it has nothing to do with location.  After you graduate Uni, the candidate must then apply for, and get a Graduate Position in the healthcare sector (NSW).  If the graduate does not get one of these positions then they cannot apply for any RN jobs successfully.  There are more graduates PA australia wide than there are positions, thus you have  few hundred qualified RN's each year who cannot find work.  It was on ACA just a few weeks ago, very sad as I considered it last year and my son's girlfriend will finish her RN's at Uni this year.

RN shortage?? only because there aren't enough Graduate places, and because the Uni's are happily churning out graduates with nowhere to go.
