I went for a job interview today for a major hospital here in melbourne and found out only a matter of hours later that I got the job!! I am in the program.

Its 6 moths acute surgical but a perm contract so if I like it and they like me, I become a perm fixture!!

I am very very happy. Considering I only received my registration less than a fortnight ago I coulndt be happier.

Congratulations Keeshy!!

That is great news - I have met a couple of people who have done div 2 grad programs, and are now permanently working on the hospital ward - they really enjoyed them, its a great way to get into acute nursing in a supported role. These div 2 grad programs are becoming quite common now - I know of at least 4 hospitals in Melb that do it. When do you start? What does the grad program entail?

They are starting to become more popular. Mostly through the major city hospitals. I really think they are great and should be done more frequently and in more facilities. I know loads of country nurses and they dont get these kind of opportunities which is a real shame.

I start next Monday. I will be working in acute surgical for 6 months and get paid study days throughout the 6 months plus they offer in services and are starting to run Div 2 peri op courses and Div 2 anaesthetics courses as well which I can get into. I would very much like to stay on there, which I will have the opportunity to do if all goes well. Also becuase I have applied to do my Div 1 externally they have offered to support me through that and I can do all of my rotations throughout the one hospital which is fantastic.

Im really pleased to get the opportunity. I get my contracts and all the info in the mail probably tomorrow or the next day and then orientation the first day!!

Cant wait :-)

Congratulations Keeshy, how exciting!
I'm currently doing my cert IV and have been looking at grad programs in acute for when I finish.
Have researched a few... Which one did you apply for? And do you know of any more in Melbourne?
Cheers =)

Hi Melanie,

Thanks for the congrats :-)

There are a few programs but I dont think there are enough. I told a friend of mine who works for western health and she has spread the word and now western health (who cover about 4 hospitals) are planning to start a program as well!!

I applied for the St Vincents one but there are also programs available at warringal private and northpark (they are greensborough way). Not sure where you are located or what would be appropriate for you thoguh.

I can suggest googling them and having a look. Good luck. When do you finish?

congrats Keeshy thats excellent.

I am hoping to take a place at western hospital so if they are starting grad program for div 2 in the next 2 years that suits me fine.

I am hoping to start the course next year so plenty of time to look into everything.

Well done again

Hi Keeshy,

I am hoping to get into a grad Div 2 program in 2009. Can you remember any of the questions that they asked you in the interview. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Kind regards - Sarah.
