Hi all,

I am an EEN working in aged care. I have been tossing up different ideas for my career, as I'd like to do Something, but I just don't know what to do. So far I have tossed up between doing RN, doing psychology, social worker, even dietetics. I go round in this circle and can never seem to settle on one thing (although it's always in health). I applied to do RN next year, but since then decided that it would be too hard with my young daughter with placements, so if I was going to do it, I would rather wait till she's at school.
So indecisive!
I work in aged care, and I do really like my job. I just want to do more eventually. Is there anyone else who has been in similar situation? Anyone who's done psychology before? Help!

Maybe you could study nursing part-time? I suppose what path you take partially depends on whether or not you want to stay in aged care. If you'd like to be self-employed, physiotherapist is an option, and you could still work with the aged. Unfortunately, physician assistants haven't got the go-ahead in Australia yet.

Does being a pathology collector interest you? The lifestyle is typically good, you're doing clinical or practical work and there is very little paperwork. The pay is also decent. You might need to upgrade your qualifications, either by doing an Advanced Diploma of Nursing and taking the pathology stream or by undertaking an accredited pathology course for nurses (e.g. http://www.pathologyfoundation.com/?gclid=CIyZ5fi48qUCFU2DpAodTlKCow ).

Good luck!

Hi, feels good to know I'm not alone with this dilemma. Mine needs a more radical change as I am currently in a field that has absolutely nothing to do with caring for others. I am a temporary resident in Oz, decent paying job, and newly married. If I make the plunge, I will put myself and hubby in a tough financial position what with lost income (if I quit work, my visa does not allow me to work part time). Also, this will definitely postpone my baby plans. Still sorting it out. Good on you for taking the first step! Been reading a lot and learned that part time or even distance learning may be good options.
