I am in a kind of a tight spot. I completed my GNP at a tertiary teaching hospital in a capital city, and one of my rotations was in my dream job. Amazing luck, right! The government has since run out of money, and the hospital cut jobs and no one in my GNP group retained their position. Worse, it was the state's entire public sector, and the last time i checked i was the only member of my Grad intake to have secured a job. So now i am working in my chosen specialty but in a small time private hospital. On the one hand I am incredibly lucky to have a hospital job, let alone one in a specialty field. At the same time I feel I am de-skilling rapidly from even my GNP level :(

So, I want to move interstate to save my career, and after a long winter Darwin is looking good! Can anyone share their experience at RDH?

Does having only one public hospital mean I will still be doing (I work in Recovery) the scopes and wisdom teeth 90% of the time? Or will co-morbidities still play a part in making this a challenging option?

OR... In terms of career progression should I look at big cities instead, even as an inexperienced second year?
