Hi rozymisty,
You are misunderstanding the MNSc degree at Melbourne. It is not the same as doing a Masters at other uni's where a qualified Nurse will do further/advanced study. The 'Melbourne Model' of teaching all degrees now follows a path of a more general degree, e.g. a general Bachelor of Science degree, rather an say a specialised BSc in a specific field, although a student may pick elective subjects which are relevent to their intended career path - i.e. somebody who wants to become a nurse might choose biology based electives. Following completition of the Bachelors degree students then go on to specialise with a Masters Degree in their chosen field.
Studying for the MNSc at Melb Uni involves packing the equivilent of a 3 year Bachelor or Nursing into 2 years by studying longer days, doing placements at the same time as studying and only getting a couple of weeks off at Christmas after year 1. At the end of the degree students are eligible to become RN's on the same level as other grads. For those of use with kids to feed this degree is particularly attractive as, despite the more intense work load, it means we get back into the work force quicker.
Hope that helps clear up any confusion :o)
