Are assistant nurses and enrolled nurses favoured for grad positions over stay at home mums or those not working in a health related field?

Hey Vanilladreams,

I think it is more beneficial if you already do work in a hospital before you apply for a new graduate program. I worked with an agency as a casual halfway through second year through NAA. I could choose my availabilities and which hospitals I didn't want to go. I ended up applying to the hospital that I worked the most with during my time as an Agency AIN.

Working in a hospital allows you at least some exposure as to how things work in the hospital setting. What we learn in class isn't always followed and things don't alway run smoothly.

You can understand the actual hospital works. How the routine is and How the staff is.

But Hey if you can sell it you may get one.. But usually it will work better in your favour if you work in a hospital first.

Hi

I’m in my 3rd year nursing and will be applying for the Grad Prog 2013.  I currently work part time as a PCA in a nursing home for the last 10months.I have also completed a Nurse student exchange for a semester to the USA.  Do you think that ‘Aged Care' experience would be considered favourable or should I switch and do casual nurse bank and hope to get some hospital work.  I have also recently registered for volunteer work at the Royal Childrens.  Am trying to expose myself to as much experience to get into the Grad Programme.  (one day I would like to specialise in emergency nursing).  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, grad interview tips...
