So I'm about to start my final year at CDU. The weather however has finished me off and 'm wanting to return to Victoria which I'm far better suited too.

I'm thinking of moving to Geelong as I have good friends there and can see myself enjoying the life down there (between Surf and work).

Question. What do people think my chances are of getting a grad year placement down there. I really want to work in Emergency as my long-term goal and know that up here in Darwin you can practically walk into a job there after completion of your grade year. I'm guessing this is not the case in Victoria.

Also as I'm from interstate I'm at the bottom of the rung as far as getting a placement goes. I'm going to apply for my grad year both up here in Darwin and down in Victoria. I thought I would do the multiple Victorian application and apply to Geelong, Footscray and St Vincents (long shot I know).

Does anybody have any ideas about how competitive the grad year placements are in Geelong?

Argh, Life is once again on hold why all this stuff plays out :D

I'm thinking I'd be happy to take pretty much anything down in Geelong and then work towards getting in to emergency after.

Hmmm, sounds like you're in a pickle over what's best. Would it not be possible to apply for grad positions in both Victoria and in Darwin? Sort of placing your bets both ways. I can understand your feeling of wanting to go back to Victoria but if it cannot offer you a place, then you may have to wander the wilderness for a bit longer before plotting your return. Getting into emergency can be difficult but I would encourage you to try acute wards, as you will learn a lot in the process, something I believe will have some carry over value when you're selected for emergency. Here to wishing you all he best in your journey.

cheers
