Good afternoon! This is my first post...

I am about to complete my application for a Div 2 nursing spot at TAFE. I have a few questions for some of you...Along with my application I need to submit a resume. Do you have any tips? Should I also include a cover letter expressing my intensions?

Also, I am concerned about my weight. I am average height and overweight. (size 16) I am concerned that I may go through the application process, sit the exam and then get to an interview and then get knocked back because I am overweight. If you have had any experience with this, or know of someone who has, I'd love to hear your thoughts. I want to go into the application process with confidence!

It's been terrific reading posts here and people's replies. I think it's terrific that people can come and share their experiences. Thanks so much for your help.

Hey Change

How exciting that you are applying for this course! I start my dip of nursing in sydney this month. My recommendation with you application is to include as much as possible, I put together a fresh resume with all work experience i had from woolworths to volunteer work, I described my duties in each role with a slant towards skills and experience that would be needed in nursing. I also included written references for past jobs as well as any courses I had done. I think a short cover letter would be great. Make sure all these documents are presented professional ie typed.

I would not worry about your weight, perhaps wear clothes that are both flattering to your shape (without showing cleavage) and something you feel confident in. I often feel better about my weight when i have my hair nicely styled and a natural looking make up.

I hope this helped! I

p.s Before my interview I did a search and one of the rural TAFE's instead of going in for the interview, they were given questions to answer via video. I can't find the site but I had written the questions down.

What Attracted you to nursing as a career? ( few key words I used was longiviety, diverse oppurtunties, opportunity for to be a life long learner, impact peoples lives, each day different from the next)

What does the role of an enrolled nurse involve?

What qualities do you think would be important in an enrolled nurse?

What qualities are important when working as part of a team?

At my interview we are asked to answer a question written about team worker then we were interviewed individually. That was in sydney not sure where you are.

Hi Change, do not ...I repeat DO NOT worry about your weight. They cannot not have you because of it or it is discrimination. Just be your natural self and you will do really well.
