Hello. I am a Cert III Aged Care teacher looking for feedback from students doing/done Cert III. I was wondering how you felt about how prepared you were for the course; and whether some sort of orientation to the course would have been beneficial to your learning ? Would love to hear from you. Oh, and if I can give some help in return, please ask.

Hi there D ESTAE,

I am nearly half way through my aged care cert3 and i am loving it. Although having no prior knowledge of nursing or Aged Care i found it quiet daunting to begin with. I managed to get casual work in a facility and have been there for 3 weeks and i love it - this has proven to be the best way to learn. I have gained so much knowledge, i have also found the course a lot easier now that i have a better understanding of what they are talking about. I start my prac in a high care facility in 2 weeks and i can't wait for the challenges that will bring!

When I completed my Cert 3 last year, I did the entire course externally (Tafe SA- Whyalla) . I felt prepared, but there were times where I was not sure of some sections, so I would have to contact my lecturer which was time consuming which some times I could not do any study for a few days. Other than that, it was good, I had to organise my own manual handling and first aid cert. The outline and structure of the course was good and the flexablity to chose what electives I wanted to do was good as well. I found the course challenging at times as I has never worked in a residential facility until I had completed my theory and was doing my placement.
