I have to madly find some good maternity hospitals that would employ student midwives. I want to look In Victoria, as i know they have quite a few great hospitals like Mercy womens and Weribee.

I just got a call from CQU regarding interview at RBWH here in brisbane doing short listing as of last week and some girls have been called up for interviews. The lady was concerned that i hadnt been called and so she suggested that I can look outside of Brisbane to do my placement. She said I can get employed like normal course work and do 3 shifts a week as a student midwife, or some pple do it supernumery and dont get paid...im like ah no thanks

The lady said that pple have done the course from other states, and even has one girl doing it in new zealand!!! How cool would that be!!! I want to go to New Zealand hehehe!!!

She asked if i wanted to go up north and im like hm dont like the humidity..makes me a cranky pants lol. Brisbane humidity is enough thanks

Thing is, ive just signed up wtih Fitness first for a 12 month contract and i hope i can transfer it to another state etc.

I was talking to my mentor about the program last week and she said that those who train in private hospitals tend to have less experience etc, and with CQU they have excellent reputation for making students think well etc and work hard and get a lot more experience etc etc which is great. My mentor also said soemthing abut the course letting you be qualified to work overseas as a midwife!

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you check out the other Universities offering post grad Midwifery?.. ACU, QUT etc.. Mater has student midwives who work additional shifts out of the mother's hospital. At least student midwives have paid positions while they study. I was looking at the ACU course. Looks good but I've heard it's very competitive to get in.
