I finished studying the advanced diploma a year ago now and wonder if i will ever get paid for it ,i am in sth aust and wish i had put the time into RN as i would be finished now and recieving better pay. Anyone got any ideas on status at uni ( which one) for this course. Should i wait for something to happen will i get back pay, will i ever be able to use these skills i have been endorsed for, Is there better status for advanced diploma at other unis in Aus, maybe i could external and finish RN sooner.

If you do your RN's through UTS (University of Technology, Sydney) or UWS (University of Western Sydney), you can get one year's recognition of prior learning, which shortens the duration of your university studies to two years full time or four years part-time.

You really only get paid more for doing your Advanced Diploma in Nursing (Enrolled Nurse) if you choose specialist electives and work in a specialised area of healthcare such as bloodbank donor nurse, or pathology collection nurse, or emergency nurse or pre- and post-natal care nurse. If you didn't choose specialised electives, you haven't really advanced your knowledge and therefore in the minds of employers do not deserve more pay.

Hmm i was always given 1 year for enrolled nurse status or diploma, advanced diploma is made of o specialty units and of course will give the EN more skills even if it be EXTRA knowledge base, administration of iv meds and research unit at uni level .According to our recent agreement advanced diploma levels will be available in nov 2012 and is made up of three levels 440hrs is a lot of extra study for nothing . I still wonder if anyone is recieving extra pay for this qualification as we should be entitled to just like advancing any qualification. If this qualification takes 2 years at uni in nsw what status is given towards 3 year RN, it should be 2years.
