Hi everyone :-) I am about to sit the numeracy and literacy test for Enrolled Nurse through TAFE in Tasmania. I am wondering if anyone has some wise words of wisdom for me. I have studied, but I havent had a lot of notice. I only found out the sitting is next week yesterday!! EEKS!! Anyway I am wondering if the numeracy questions given on the internet as an indicator are close to the real deal? I have read all the support given here and I am hoping anyone from anywhere can help me PLEASE.
Thanks heaps Chelle

Hi Chelle...I am currently studying enrolled nursing through polytechnic in Devonport (formally Tafe). I started last year and like you, I was stressed about the numeracy test. The one we did was quite basic really, eg how many 500mg parecetemol tablets do you need for a dosage of 1000mg and that sort of thing.
The hardest part for me was writing why I should be accepted into the course (I think thats what the question was, either that or why did I want to be a nurse), especially when 99% or people there had previous experience in aged care or disability support ab=nd I was coming from a retail background lol. But don't let it put you off cause here I am almost a year later and about to go out on my first placement!
All the best mate, let us know how you go.

Oh my Gosh, how awesome to meet you Sharelle!! I am soooo excited. Thank you very much for the heads up with the maths, I have not been to school to do stuff like that for 30 years - so you can imagine how daunted I would be feeling.
It must have been really 'in your face' not having any experience, but whatever you did, you made it!!! I am soo excited for you too, where are you going for your prac placement? I hope we can keep in touch, its great to meet someone here in Tassie I can chat to.

Please let me know how you doing, do you have a specialty you are considering.. or are you planning on waiting until your prac placements are finalised?

Hi KD,
Thank you for your wise words :-) Counting down the days, only two left. I have been studying my face off !! I am even more excited if its more about 'all about me'.. I have loads to tell :-) and if enthusiasm has anything to do with entrance ...woooo hoot I might really have a chance !! :-) I got a friend to drop by some grade ten maths today, so I can practise more..

I am soooo excited to be trying out again, and joining up with all the enrolled nurse trainees. Thanks for the 'heads up' and the good luck wishes.. Are you enjoying the training and the assignments too? - I have heard there are loads!! Thats not the scary bit.. For me its just getting in.. Do you have study group? and KD, do you have to reference with bibliographies and the like?

I shall post again soon..

Enjoy your day KD and please keep in touch :-)

Oh good luck with your enrollment! :) I actually sat the test this wednesday passed for enrolled nursing at the Clarence campus. The maths was surprisingly easier than the literacy (I've never been good at maths). Does anyone know how they determine who passes and fails this test? I think I got most of the math questions right, but I missed about 3 because I had a total mind blank toward the end of the exam from stress..so I'm hoping it will be enough :( haha.

Thanks, Sigrid :)

Hi Siggy,
I sat the same test at Clarence lol wonder if you were in the same room? I went in at lunch time. I thought the numeracy wasnt too bad, but the literacy... Crumbs I have never seen anything like that before!! And the front question made sense, but whoa .. I was totally LOST. I prepared for a different strategy, so I am really wondering if I have any hope. Fingers crossed for both of us.. Nice to see someone from the same campus coming onboard the forum :-)
I spoke to Chris, we should receive something by the end of next week. Good luck to both of us!! Hopefully we will both joining together. I cant wait.. SOOOOO excited!!

Oh wow! I was in the lunch time seesion too! (2pm-4pm?)

I know! the maths wasn't actually that bad but the literacy was something else. Glad I wasn't the only one that couldn't get their head around it haha! It's great meeting people on here from the same campus, yes :) I'm so nervous about the result though.. fingers crossed and good luck to you too! Might see you in class! :)

Oh really! haha! I was the girl that came in late and flustered, and embarrassingly went straight to my seat before having to turn back to the teacher and sign in and get my name badge :P haha if you happen to have seen me :P That's so crazy that we're both on this forum! haha. I just want to hear from them already, the suspense is killing me :(

Hi Siggy,
I spoke with Dallas today, they are still sorting through 200 applications, nothing coming via post before Thursday so we may not get a response til next week... I am going to work on some Biology stuff and if anyone out there has some great advice for interviews, Siggy and I would love to hear your experiences :-) Thanks very much xx

Wow! They got a good response, 200 people :O

Yeah I didn't think we would hear much until next week..still another week of waiting. Argh! :P

Interview tips would be wonderful :) I've always known though that the number one rule is to be yourself. Because no one wants a person pretending to be something they're not :) x
