Anyone here done or doing this course? It looks like I'm going to be doing it, starting in August this year. I'm very excited but also a bit nervous...
I'm a bit concerned about the price ($9950) as they said they don't do VET FEE help, so I would have to pay for the whole thing (though they do offer a payment plan).
Also worried that as its online (with 3 residential schools at the goldcoast and 400 hours work placement), i won't learn as much practical knowledge as i would doing it face to face and it'll be harder to get a employment after, but online is the only way i'm able to do it right now..
Will i still learn all the skills that you would learn from doing it in class? Do you think prospective employers would be less likely to hire me knowing that i'd done the course online?
To those who have done the course: what are the residential school things like? Do you learn a lot and how long do they go for? Will they teach things like injections, IV's, catheterization, NG tubes?
Hoping someone here can help!
Thanks for reading
:-)

Hi There
I am doing the course online through Gold Coast Tafe, i pay $248.00 fortnightly. I started the course in April, going by the study guide all the practical will be done in residential school as well as exams. Assessments are completed online. I really don't think it will be harder to get employment, your still doing all the modules needed to get Diploma , so as long as you get a certificate in the end doing it online or class wont make a difference. I really enjoy doing it online because I can still work and you get all the support from the students and teachers through chat or email. Hope i have help a bit :)

Thanks for that Bev, i guess i just needed some reassurance =).
I have paid the 10% deposit and signed the forms for the payment plan, so it looks like its all going ahead =)
That's great that you still get support from teachers and other students thru email and chatrooms, i was a bit worried that there wouldn't be enough support..

Hi,
I just signed up for the same course starting August this year. I'm very exited to be finaly on my way to become a nurse. I've done a lot of research and this online course seems to be the only way I can study right now( unless I pay absolute fortune in childcare fees!!) and I'm sure that in the end it won't matter if it was done online or in classroom.
Good luck with your study and hope to see you around(online :))

Doing really well with the course, I am loving it, it gets hard at times trying to fit a diploma, work, kids, family etc but I am getting there. In September I go to the Gold Coast Tafe for 2 weeks to do my exams and practical so I am pretty sure my placements will be Oct/Nov , thats if I pass everything, fingers crossed. Michka, you will love it I am sure :)

Hi Jodez, this is the website with contact details: http://www.goldcoast.tafe.qld.gov.au/cis/index.php?script_name=coursedetails&course_id=3331
For the course that is starting next month, the dates you have to attend at the Gold coast are:
Full-time student residential dates
Semester 1 10 January to 21 January 2011
Semester 2 27 June to 8 July 2011
Semester 3 13 February to 17 February 2012

Part-time student residential dates
Semester 1 4 April to 15 April 2011
Semester 2 5 December to 16 December 2011
Semester 3 13 August to 17 August 2012

So around five weeks all up...
Plus 400 hours of work exp but that can be done close to wherever you live =)
As far as I know (i haven't actually started the course yet) everything else is online.

Hey, for ages I have been looking for online nursing diploma course, but only found it though you guys. I'm now looking at staring in March 2011.

If anyone can help me out, I have a few questions....

There is a lot of prac in this course (which is good) but is it really full on completing the practical side of things as well as the assignments and studying?

What is the course like, is there a lot of support to help you learn?

And, are all the exams done on the gold coast during the residential week?

I'd really appreciate someones help and if you have any more info for me.

Thanks guys

I'm from Canberra, joined as a member to this forum just now.

Could I please get some advise from someone who is doing there Diploma in Nursing Online? It is not offered anywhere near to my place, so I was thinking to give some more effort and do it online. Someone please give me proper information. I tried to check out with Gold Coast Tafe, but I was unable to access their website. Well, I hope I will get some good information in here. You can email me directly to: mieka09@gmail.com

Thanks in advance.

Hi Everyone.

Hoping someone may be able to assist with my enquiry.
Due to financial committements (mortgage bills etc) I can not afford to take 18months of work to study full-time at Tafe NSW so I am wondering if there are any places training colleges/institues in NSW that offer the Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled/Division 2 Nursing) by Distance Education and/or Online????

I have notice that in Queensland the Gold Coast Institute of TAFE offeres this course in online mode, but it does requires some trips to the Gold Coast to completed the practical/residential classes. Has any one in NSW completed this course through Queensland TAFE by online mode and got work in NSW? If so, how did you find the course, was it hard, did you have lots of support etc from Queensland TAFE?? Iam thinking of doing this course, but want to make sure it is the right choice and best option.

Thanks, Melanie
