Hi everyone,

I'm about to start my final semester of study so I'll be finished by mid 2014. I want to apply for 2015 graduate positions but I read in the Victorian Government Graduate Nurses Handbook that doing this may lower my chances of getting a graduate job as I may not be considered as much of a "new grad" as others going for the job. I was wondering if anyone has experience with this situation and want advice on whether it's a good idea to finish my course now or to spread out my subjects so that I technically finish at the end of the year. The problem with that option however is that I don't have access to more than 1 referee that's nursing related and counted on having a placement this semester to gain a second referee.

so basically what would be worse, applying with 2 strong referees but not being fresh out of uni (6 months out) or being fresh out of uni with the rest of the cohort but not having appropriate referees?

Figure out which hospitals you want to apply to, then ring and ask them what they prefer!
