Hi all,

I remember a few years ago seeing places like St Vincents Private and Mercy (Melbourne) offer traineeships in enrolled nursing and am wondering whether they still make these offers.

All of the information I am researching on the net at the moment seems to be really outdated which made me think it may not be very common anymore.

I know Ballarat Health is offering it at the  moment and I am looking into that, but I was wondering if anyone in Melbourne knew if there are any opportunities around at the moment or in the future.

Is it worth approaching places for a traineeship? I really like the idea of learning in the workplace as I study, and having that 15 hours a week of paid work (even if it is trainee wages).

I have been offered a place for Diploma of Nursing at ACU for midyear, but want to have a second look at my options.

If anyone here is working in a healthcare setting where they offer this, please let me know. Any advice about how to go about this, or whether I can approach potential employers, would be great. From what I have gathered it seems that aged care facilities are more likely to offer enrolled nursing traineeships, which I would be happy to work in.

I am looking in Melbourne's western suburbs (where I live) and Melbourne City/Parkville/Carlton etc hospital precincts.

Thank you everyone

Kaz

I don't believe they are offered anymore but I could be wrong. I looked into them too and when I called St V's (in 2011) they said they had stopped them the previous year. Best bet is getting qualified then doing a grad program.

Good luck!

If you're interested in working while training why don't you do PCA work while you do your nursing studies?

Hi Snapey,

Just wondering, what is PCA work, and how does one get started in it? I am very keen to get started working in an area relevant to Nursing.. I have just finished my first semester of the Bachelor of Nursing :) so, no placements as yet.. Am I still able to get started in any sort of AIN, or PCA work? Amy info you can provide is much appreciated :)
