Hi everyone
I am 35 in May and I decided towards the end of last year I was going to become an enrolled nurse. I was on a cruise ship with my hubby in December and we sat with this couple fro QLD who were older than us, and both did their RN and now working on the Gold Coast and loving it.
This is what inspired me to finally do it. Now.. to start, I have had the run around from every Tafe here in Perth, until finally I spoke to Northam Tafe who were absolutley wonderful.
I am enrolling into 7109 Certificate IV in Preparation for entry into enrolled nursing. This is 6 months by correspondence. I can then go straight into the Diploma of Nursing. I was scared I was going to have to do the STAT test, and when I got hold of the demo book online, i freaked out and said it was all over. Thankfully I dont have to do it if I do this entry course.
So anyway, this year already I quit my admin job for starters. Have spent the last few wks hunting for a part time job 4 days per week, so that 1) I can travel to Northam to do the full day induction/enrolment on 15th Feb. 2) I can have 1 day per week of me time and a working day to watch the online lectures etc and commit to study. 2) I am not stressed out and committed to a full time job this time round - I have the flexiblity to have the 1 working day off to do things.
I have a few questions though,
1)Once i get into the Diploma which will Prob be July this year, when can I move into an aged care job? I envisage I will have to quit my part time admin role as I have to attend tafe 2 days per week and also do placements in a hospital. As if my employer will allow me to do that, when the admin job is not carer or nursing related at all!
2) do you have to have senior first aid before enrolling into the Diploma?
3) can you choose which hospital in Perth you want to do your placements? how many times per year do you do them?
4) is anyone else about to enrol into the same Cert into prep for nursing this year? I would love an online study buddy?
thanks!
