Hi there everyone,
I am currently doing my certificate III in aged care( In correspondence)and so far it has been quite easy, but now i have found myself stuck on an assignment regarding dementia.
This is mainly due to the fact that no aged care facility has responded to my calls or emails, i am looking for a statement of duty of care regarding wandering or aggressive patients.
This is some sort of statement that every care facility should have according to my workbook.
And should contain information on the carers duty of care when it comes to
Observation of behaviours, how to document these behaviours and appropriate responses to this kind of behaviour.
Does anyone know where i can obtain this information, im finding it so frustrating that im stuck on such a small assignment.
PLEASE HELP!

Hi Everyone!

I am thinking about doing the Cert 3 in Aged Care. I have found the course on Seek and Age Concern. Could you please recommend where to do the course at? Who is best and if anyone has heard bad reports on places to study. I'd hate to pick a bad company to study with!

Also, how challenging is the course? Are you struggling to complete it?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou!

Hi

I am also doing a variation of this course. If you can get your hands on a book called Aged Care in Australia it will be of a great help to you.

hi Kris

I have done just about half of my work placement and love it. Yes the first day I was a bit nervious but got over it pretty quick. I never found it hard i found it just came to me. You will bet alright after the first day. Don't get yourself all worked up it will just come to you when you get there and get in and do it.

I hope this has given you some encouragement.

love Char

Hi Kris

You might find more information by searching for specific care homes (like "care homes manchester") and then choosing a few to use as resources. Hope you find what youre looking for.

Hi there 'nursing4me'. First of all, what does your name mean? Just curious.
I have been in Aged Care for a long time and I am doing my bit at my work to make workplace issues heard.
I am also VERY compassionate about helping anyone in forums; in other words, I usually have something
to offer up (I hope), in order to help and support.

Hi Kris,

I am new at this,I am also doing the Aged care course via correspondence.

What element and question are you looking for?

I have been working in Aged Care for 3 yrs now and am finally finishing off course,so I maybe able to help you.

I am also stumped in the ASsessment task sheet for chac6c on preparing a portfolio relevant to your local community .

Can anyone put me on the right track of how to do this?

cheers

Hi Axelina,
I have just finished my course and passed with flying colours but thank you for replying to my post.
I had the same dramas with that assignment but managed to find quite alot of info for the portfolio but for the sydney region.
If you type in aged care services in google and try to narrow it down to your area it will bring up places that provide assistance to the elderly to remain at home longer.
EG. meals on wheels, day care for the elderly, gardeners that provide service to the elderly
I hope this helps a little

hi kris,

regarding your question about the duty of care for people wandering or aggressive.you can find all of that in acfi behavioral chart everything is there,it show the behavior, implementation and intervention.if you dnt have a copy i can email it to you if you want.example on resident who's wandering your duty of care is you have to direct them to the right place if thr stuck, provide signs that are familiar and visible to them like for example toilet, you have to put toilet photo on the toilet door, and for those aggressive, you have to calm the evironment, talk calmly with a soft touch to the patient, ask what he/she wants.but if still not working and the resident starts to verbally and physically abuse you,you will tell the resident that what his doing is not right, and if he wont stop you will leave the room.then you have to leave the room.and give few mins.then go back.talk calmly again and ect.

Hi axelina

I just set it out with the assignment questions eg.
Organisation name;
Address:
Details of relevance: activities they may run or assistance they can provide to the elderly.
Access: meaning who can access these services, eg over 55's disabled or frail elderly.
And any other important information you think they may need to know eg phone numbers, are there any community bus services running that will enable the elderly to get to these places and so on.

I had the same problems and kept looking into the questions to much, my assesor actually told me i had left her speachless to my assignments because i went way over board with answering the questions and provided more then enought information.
So dont stress, im sure you will do fine and with most of the courses that are done in corrispondance you usually get another chance at the assignments if you do not get it right the first time.

Hope this helps a little
